ACADIA 2014 Hackathon

Nathaniel Zuelzke and I were invited to participate as ‘design champions’ in the Hackathon element of this year’s ACADIA conference. The overarching theme of the conference was Design Agency, a concept that has been a focal point of research for both of us.

Given the loose format and short length of the event, we worked through an abridged version of an earlier workshop proposal, “Revealing Localities,” using geographic data from openstreetmap, agent-based Half-Edge Mesh analysis, and custom display methods to produce a series of psycho-geographic maps and artificial landscapes derived from the Los Angeles street network. Revealing, deforming, and accentuating measurements of the network into abstracted data visualizations.

Thanks to our co-participants: Viola Ago, Sarah Kott, Jonathan Gotfryd, Danni Wang, and Chris Welch
